opthalmic migraine

I've suffered with these same types of migraines for over 25 years. The pain can be excruciating for days, with numb limbs, vomiting, etc. An aunt, who suffers from the same, gave me a cure (at least for me) years ago that seems to work wonders. When I first start seeing the "floaties" or wavy lines, I get a large glass, fill it with as much ice as I can and drink either diet soda or water or tea. It has to be very, very cold and that's where the ice comes in. The soda is easier for me to get down because the faster I drink it, the faster it starts to work. It seems that I need to down at least 44/64 ounces. When the floaties/wavy lines finally disappear I sometimes have a slight dull ache if I turn my head too fast, but have not had to go to an emergency room for years. I've passed this one to a few others over the years and they've told me it works for them. I've mentioned it to doctors and they tell me they think it's the caffeine, but it's also worked with water, so I'm not sure. My aunt told me that the doctor who told her about this said it calms the nerves in the stomach. Not sure who to believe but I know it works. If you wait too long to start drinking, it usually doesn't work very well, maybe a little. I've also woke up with the migraine and it was too late to do anything, so the Imitrex (pills & shots) does help when it gets to that point. But it's nice to not have to get to that point, if possible. Good luck! I hope it helps for you.
