Hi - A colonoscopy usually is a diagnostic procedure that is done by inserting a long tube or "scope" through the rectal and on up through the lower bowel. It can go all the way to the ileocecal valve if it still there. Polyps can be removed sometimes during this procedure. It is basically a "non-invasive" procedure. There is a camera in the "scope" and you can watch on a monitor to see the progress on throught the bowel. A resection is done via an abdominal incision and a portion of the bowel is "resected" or removed the the bowel is reattached each of the "cut ends to the other so that a continous bowel in still there - just a bit shorter. You should do fine post op. Use your head and listen to your body. Yes, some recoup time will be needed, but follow your Drs orders. I have had two major bowel surgeries. Good luck
