My daughter who is 7 years old was just diagnosed for the third time in the past 6 to 8 weeks for strep throat. She has never had strep before this. She tested positive the first time and a week after completing antibiotics had symptoms again. We went to the emergency clinic and was told that they didn't believe her original infection was even cleared up so they put her on Augmentin for the strep in addition to an ear infection. Four days after finishing Augmentin she woke up with symptoms again, but these lasted only the day. Because of the recent infections though I took her back to the doctor (I was going to have her tested anyhow to make sure she wasn't a carrier) and the doctor said that it didn't look like there was strep, but her culture just came back positive again. Now they have her on clindamycin. Hopefully this works, but I just hate having her on all these antiobiotics all the time. It's bad enough all the other meds she has to take for allergies and asthma. She still does occasionally get an ear infection, but not like they were last year. They broke the constant cycle of these last year. Has anyone had problems with both of these, one affecting the other? Last year doctor spoke about PE tubes and adenoidectomy, now there is the possibility of a tonsillectomy if this recent medicine doesn't work, I just feel so frustrated.
