Now days states automatically "force" babies to have the HIB shot which is the Hep. B vacine. In 1991 this was given to my grandson who was only apox.7 or 8 mo old. He became very pale, too tired to eat, slept all the time, almost like he couldn't wake up.A routine blood count at WIC a few days later was suddenly low. they were not concerned. I WAS. We took him to a dr 2 days later and it had droped more. He was immediately sent to specialist, (the next day.) More blood test. It appeared newly formed red blood cells, were immature and would discinigrate right before their eyes. They were stumped. The were scared the child had some awful form of anemia, or something they had never seen before....He got better over the next 2 wks.. They chalked the whole thing up as a reaction to the HIB shot and said he should not take any more, ever!!. Of course the backwards MIssouri school has tried to force him to have it anyway to attend...another story.... He was treated with some sort of liquid iron suppliment to help get him built back up again. I have heard that if adults take the Hib shot and they already have the Hep B antibodies that it can make them ill. A few yrs back they were offering this shot at a factory where my husband worked. Red Cross I think in conjunction with a blood drive. The nurse there was the one that told my husband this.....but I'd check it out. Sometimes if you ask a pharmacist,...they seem to know more....but you might be able to find written info about the shot and see all possible side effects on line??
