Dear friend: My sister-in-law had a bunionectomy 10 years ago and she did just great. When she was in the hospital, after the surgery, we encouraged her to take the pain killers that they prescribed until the pain was completely gone. I took care of her, and I don't recall her being in excruciating pain. Of course she stayed with her foot in the air like you say for 3-5 days with ice. Take advantage of that time to rest, read a nice book, enjoy the sun, take time for yourself. I'm sure it will go very well. Best wishes.
