Hi Anne I have two girls with Fragile x who also show characteristics of autism. Some doctors believe that autism can co-exist with Fragile X as a seperate dianogsis. It might be helpful just to wait and see if your son tests positive to fragile x and then further investigate the autism side, I say that because it also depends on how your child is affected by Fragile x. One of my girls is affected by fragile x but only show characteristics of autism, whilst the other could easily be diagnosed with autism.
