Hi, I am a special ed teacher in Colorado. I wanted to respond to your note. Go ahead and have the IEP meeting, you will not have to do the whole thing all over at all, it will not all change, trust me. Your son will still have the same disabilities to deal with whether he is fragile x or has aspergers. They can change his primary disability at his next IEP or you can do an addendum when you find out the actual diagnosis. I have many parents of high schoolers that still do not know definately if their sons have fragile x. Often fragile x is mixed with other disabilities which causes confusion. I reccomend that you focus on the behaviors of your son and don't dwell on the label. I know you want to know exactly what he has and why but often you may not get all your answers and you don't want to lose sight of what is most important and that is your son. I adore my students with fragile x. They have such sweet dispositions and also have a tremendous amount of potential to be extremely independent. I have several doing very well in school, driving and at their jobs. Feel free to email me. Cathy
