Hi, I am a nurse and I read your message. What I tend to think is best for people suffering from hypoglycemia is more like keeping highly sugared things at a minimum - what they do is make your blood sugar rise very rapidly, then it tends to drop pretty rapidly. What I would eat would be more like 5 smaller meals a day, with as much protein as carbohydrate. Get some kind of a book that will show you what carbs are good, and what carbs are not. You definitly need a high, fast acting carb if you are in that shakey, passing out feeling - but it would be better to eat well and avoid the refined sugars . I drink a protein drink, made with milk, and has only fructose in it, which is more of a natural sugar, not highly refined. The protein is soy, it tastes good and holds me well. I eat cottage cheese and applesauce, or other things that have both protein and carbs. Actually I follow the "Zone" diet fairly closely, and I have felt better, had many fewer episodes of hypoglycemia than before. I also stopped drinking so much coffee, which has helped, as well. Good Luck!
