We went through this and if you catch the ambliopia early enough, say at around 6 years old, which we did, and the correct treatment is used to train the brain to use visual signals from the eye with weaker vision, building a stronger connection between the brain and the weak eye, and allowing vision to develop normally in that eye, then ambliopia can be cured completely. It may take a couple of years. And yes a patch and glasses might be needed to force the weak eye to get stronger, but it is definitely worth it.
Find an eye doctor well versed in the available treatments methods. Good luck.
