Hi Chris, I have had PMR for 3 years now.. I was almost a year until I was diagnosed..My prednesone started at 20 mg and I am struggling after 2 years to maintain on 4mg. I believe that if the prednesone is lowererd too quickly all the aches of Polymyalgia comes back.. I expect to be on it for quite some time yet.. Most of my pain is shoulders and hips.. I was diagnosed by blood SED rate. Normal 22 and mine hit 150.. Hope I helped some. Good luck Peggy
