I am a diabetic on an insuline pump who has had spinal cord infusion at C-3 and C-4. Have the surgery while you can get it covered thru your insurance. It will probably also help your case. This is not a dream deferred. After your surgery, you can get back on track. The fact that you have diabetes will not cause any danger in your healing process. I have also been diagnosed with Lupus, thyroid disease, Gerd, a Rare Disorder called Stiffman Syndrome, HBP etc.I had the surgery. The worst part of the surgery was wearing the hard neck brace for three months. I was up, alert and talking right out of recovery. God is with you thru this journey. Be Blessed.
