Yes, Just a small amount of steroids (prednisone) even for a very short period of time, can unfortunately cause avascular necrosis (osteonecrosis - the more medical term). I have been on high doses for about 8 years. Prednisone has given me so many longterm affects. The AVN just showed up in August and I'm a 22 year old, both hips collapsed in justabout half a year, so my first replacement is in one year.
