RSD & elective surgery

Surgery and RSD do not mix. The only suggestion I have, is if the surgery is totally necessary , to talk with the anesthesiologist , about your RSD and have him do a block before they start the surgery . This is not a guarantee that your RSD won't spread though . I had total upper body RSD until last Oct when I had to have emergency surgery to my foot for an infection . I was incapacitated and forgot to talk to with the anesthesia Dr before they started my surgery and my RSD has spread into that foot now . Anytime we RSDers have surgery , we are risking that our disease will spread . So talk with your Dr and the Anesthesia Dr to see if a block in your arm may help prevent the spread of your RSD.
