My family has a history of fibrocystic disease as well...I had a biopsy done on a cyst that had grown...my breasts were full on cysts. I was 40 at the time of the biopsy and I began a progesterone cream. My breasts are now almost completely clear of the cysts and I don't get the irregular periods... My suggestions would be first: another opinion from a GYN doc and second that she have her hormones checked for balance. She is too young for menopause or even perimenopause but perhaps there is something causing an estrogen dominance. A double breast removal seems so drastic...I can't imagine that would be a sane thing to do.
