Stay away from anything that has seeds in it or else remove the seeds. eg: Can eat tomatoes but not the seeds.Try to stay away from gassy producing foods. Diverticulitis is inflammation of small pouches on the intestines, usually the colon, called diverticuli. When you eat anything with seeds in it, or nuts, etc. they can get caught in these pouches and set up inflammation or infection. More often diverticulosis occurs in older people & develops at points of weakened musculature in the bowel wall. You need to keep your bowels open, Metamucil fiber or another fiber brand, helps and drink plenty of fluids especially after eating meals. If you have any pain/tenderness usually localized in the lower left side of the abdomen, nausea, vomiting, distention, then get to you doctor fast or emergency room, you may have an intestional obstruction or perforation that may require surgery. Hope this helps a little. Kelly Knorr,
