Hi, My dad did what you said and they were going to fuse his vertibraes as well. On a fluke, actually, a friend recommended a chiropractor and even though we had to get him there horizontal in a station wagon, we did. He walked out of the office. It took about 5 more visits before he was back working full time (physical type job). I would consider a good chiropractor (especially one who does pressure points therapy, too) before doing surgery...if it all doesn't help, you always can do the surgery later. Another thing to consider: a really good accupunturist. In So CA here, there is a guy who is a specialist in inflammation and many accupunturists are also very competent chiropractors...good luck...hope things get better for you
