Someone mentioned the vaseline treatment. That was what finally worked for us, after several months of treatment with NIX, careful nit removal, and thorough cleaning of the house. The only thing that worked was the vaseline treatment. However, I must tell you that it is very difficult to remove the vaseline from your hair afterward. After shampooing my daughter's hair about 14 times and not seeing any progress in removing the vaseline, I finally called Johnson&Johnson. They recommended using a hot hair dryer on a section of hair, followed by blotting with a towel, then hot hair dryer again, followed by blotting again. I had to do this in sections all over my daughter's head to finally remove the greasy stuff. My daughter complained that the hot dryer heated up the oil and really burned her scalp while I was doing this. She didn't have any burnt scalp skin, but I'm sure it was very uncomfortable. Bottom line is that the vaseline treatment worked for us, after several previous unsuccesful treatments with NIX, but the vaseline was very tedious to remove to reclaim normal looking hair again. I just found out we have another outbreak at both my daughters' schools, so I will be trying the tea tree oil shampoo as a preventative. Good luck!!
