As a Registered Nurse, I do sympathize & empathize with you. I have worked in the Emergency Room for many years. Keep in mind no one is perfect; we all make mistakes sometimes. I can't quite comprehend why the Hernia isn't surgically repaired unless the Doctor(s) feel the surgery might definately be detrimental to your Mother's health. But now she has more pain and told to take Metumicel and stool softeners. I most definately suggest you take your Mother to a Gastroenterologist. If you have already, then try another Gastroenterologist for a second opinion. A Gastroenterologist does specialize in these problems. Are your Mother's problems and pain worth doing nothing more?? Put yourself in her position and I'm sure you'll agree with me to continue looking for a much better solution. Good luck.
