John : 06/28/2002 Hello; My name is John. I Have been recently diagnosed with Interstitial Fibrosis. I under went a open lung biopsy as well. My pulmonologist referred me to UW Hospital for more tests and second opinions. Medication is needed. I was not put on prednisone due to the opinion of my doctor and latest results. I have recieved authorization by my insurance company to recieve a trial drug - actimmune - gamma interferon b, an injection drug. It shows fairly good results in the trials and treatment of fibrosis - dramatically slowing down the disease. Because it is a trial drug, it is expensive - $4,000 month depending on dosage and available with a prescription only. I do not know what type of insurance you have, but a follow-up with your doctor may be a good idea. Ther are many web sites / forums available on this disease. Last, the bad news, there is no cure for this disease. Sorry. But I have to deal with this as well. Good luck.
