Hi, I've been suffering with perio-now menopause full swing for about 14 yrs.My worst symptom is HOT FLASHES. I took prem-phase HRT in the beginning cuz it helped to bring on a period. 14 days .05mg of estrogen then 14 days 5mgs. of progesterone. It really worked for about the first 5-6 yrs. Definately helped with the hot flashes, mood swings and sleeplessness. I also incorporated a diet of lots of tofu, soy milk, soy shakes, vitamins and exercised 4-5days a week, aerobic, step classes cardio kickboxing and weight training. (Mostly cuz I was scared of getting any fatter) This started for me at age 32. It's hereditary in my family!! Then about 3-4 yrs ago my menustration stopped. I found out the past 2 yrs or so my cholesterol is very high. Against both of my Drs. advise I've stopped taking the HRT totally. I truly believe there is a link between high cholesterol and the HRT replacement. I figured why do I need the HRT if I'm not menustrating. Also the nite sweats an flashes were becoming more frequent...I've tried wild yam cream. Different natural estrogens and none of it works for me. I still eat tofu, 2-3 times a week. take a natural estrogen-vitamin and a multi, calcium, E. and B-complex...Sometimes I think it helps, but honestly not one day or night goes by that I don't have a hot flash. Sometimes I don't even sweat, it's just like an internal heat that start in the center of my chest and spreads thru my entire body, legs feet arms. So off comes the P.J. blankets. You wait & pray. Next thing ya know your lying naked in bed freezing. This can happen 8, 10 15 times a nite!! Crazy stuff. My Mom is 86 an she says she still gets them some nights !! Hang in there !!!! P.S. tell your hubby hands off the thermostat. buy him an xtra quilt for his side of the bed !!!!!!!!
