You didn't say what your sexually transmitted disease was, but individuals who have contracted one have a higher incidence of human papilloma virus and some other things which require careful monitoring. If your doctor thinks you should be monitored, I would highly encourage it. Some of the problems can be treated when caught in the early. Additionally, if you have had a STD, then you should be HIV tested periodically for at least the next 12 to 18 months because the two are often contracted together. Protected sex in an absolute necessity for you to protect yourself in the future, and your partners until you know your status which can take up to 18 months to convert. Good LUck
