Medic alert

I've been in the medical field for almost 15 yrs. I've worked in both ER's, doctors offices and as an EMT out on the street. With all the knowledge I have I am telling you GET an ID bracelet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It WILL save your life one of these days. That itchy rash you described is only the beggining...just a warning. Eventually continued exposure to latex will cause you to go into respiratory arrest. This goes WAY beyond you not wearing latex gloves in biology class!!! you now must check the label on band aids!! They do make latex free ones. Also when you go to the doctors THEY must wear latex free gloves when they touch you!!!!!! Every time you are expoxed, even just for a second, it biulds up in your body. Eventually your body will will have an anaphylactic reaction like the one I described!!! The bracelet or necklace (they make ones that look like military dog tags) is VERY important, especially if you are ever in a situation where you can't speak for your self, like an accident. Latex allergies may be common, but they are also VERY severe when they hit!!! Consider yourself lucky for the warning, now prevent a catasthophy. It may also help you to look up everything that contains latex so you can avoid it. I think you will be surpised at how much you are exposed to with out even knowing it. Good Luck, Kimb
