My mother has this condition and she is doing very well. She currently takes a combo of several drugs to help with pain (celebrex has given the most relief but it is hard to get insurance to cover it for treatment of fibro-she had to fight with them for 6 months to get it). Hot baths help alot and she does have more pain during bad/cold weather and if she over extends herself (she likes to garden and that can be a bit much for her). But she still works as an RN and still has a healthy and active life. Just find the right doctor and don't give up hope. Good luck to you both.
