I have a big freezer in my basement which contained about $200 worth of raw meat and chicken. Yesterday, I discovered that the door had been left open since I don't know when. The last time I KNOW FOR SURE that anyone was down there was on Saturday. All the meat and chicken was completely defrosted but smelled PERFECTLY FINE. According to my butcher, if I repacked all the meat and chicken ,I can refreeze it and it'll be fine. I did so, but I'm still nervous-am I putting my family at risk of food poisoning? Just because it smells fine, does that mean it is fine?
