I had the same type of itching, which was exactly as you described it. I was prescribed the same medication. I believe it is internal hives. So, you may have become suddenly allergic to something that you have always eaten, or a pet you've had for years, pollen etc. My itching finally stopped, but about two years later I developed external hives and then anaphylaxis. I am now taking high doses of antihistimines and Ranitidine to reduce stomach acid. I also carry an Epipen for emergencies. Alcohol and exposure to sun make you more hypersensitive. I've been told that this condition is "temporary" lasting 4 to 14 years. Hopefully you will not develop this more extreme form of allergic reaction.
