I was diagnosed with Diabetes 2 when I was 53. The diabetic neuropathy pains in the feet started long before the diagnosis, and they have been harder to live with than the actual disease. I was told by more than one "health care professional" that the only way to ease the pain and also to eliminate it was to lose weight through diet change and exercise. Well, now that I'm 57 and didn't follow that advice I had a quadruple bypass in March this year. Granted, the improved circulation has helped and the cardiac-diabetic diet in the hospital certainly helped me lose 20 pounds-this was an even rougher way to ease the foot pain. It is necessary for your husband to really pay attention to what he is eating, especially the carbohydrates=pasta, rice, grains, pizza, popcorn. Also, getting out to walk regularly will do wonders; no matter if it is around a track, on a treadmill, or just around the block. He can gradually work up to longer distances-he will get better. I got tired of people telling me about diets, excercise etc. There are no miracles to getting through this, only he can do it, and with your support. If I can answer any questions or be some support let me know.
