Has your doctor checked you for RA or rheumatoid arthritis? Some forms of arthritis can affect the eyes, more common with RA. I have RA and it causes some dryness of my eyes, however not severe. I have seen more severe cases which causes red swollen eyes etc. I also noticed my eyes are more irratated in the winter due to the dry heat from our oil heater.
