I just wanted to respond to a note that stated that fibromyalgia is directly related to or affected by the thyroid. I have fibromyalgia. I used to work in a hospital where we treated thyroid patients. While thyroid can be a problem in a patient who also has fibromyalgia, I have not heard or read anything linking them. I have my thyroid and blood levels checked often because of the multiple medications I am on. I am also now on disability. I have never had a thyroid problem. Fibromyalgia is a central nervous system dysfunction. It generally makes ones pain response to be extremely hyper. The "hot spots" you speak of are pain points that are used to diagnose fibromyalgia and myofacial pain syndrome. Fibromyalgia is often misdiagnosed and misunderstood. There are a lot of opinions out there but the best doctor to see would be a rhuematologist, if you can get your doctor to refer you. Good luck to anyone who suffers from fibromyalgia. It is a complex disorder and hard to go through. I know I've been there.
