I also have (or had) sleep apnea. I tried sleeping with the CPAP, but being claustrophobic, I would have panic attacks when I put the mask on, and I honestly tried a multitude of times to sleep with it. I finally started researching the meds I was taking and found one, Effexor, was known to cause sleep apnea. I gradually discontinued the Effexor, while my Dr changed me to another antidepressant, and Voila! no sleep apnea! Another trick to try: sleep with a cervical collar and a fairly flat pillow to keep the chin up.
