Because polymyalgia is inflammation of the muscles, a hip replacment will not eliminate the pain. That will only occur if there is damage (arthritis) in the hip. I would think the only complication that might occur would be that the physiotherapy afterwards may be difficult as the muscles would be even more inflamed after surgery.
