Our 16 month old son is currently suffering from what is thought to be ideopathic pancytopenia. His symptoms began when he was 11 months old, he developed a rash, similar to a menengitus rash, and began bruising easily. When checked at hospital his platelets were significantly low (17)followed by diminishing blood lines, until his platelets were 11, neutrophils were 0.3 and H.b of 5. He had two platelet and one blood transfusion. His blood lines began recovering at a slow rate about 23rd December and since then his levels have evened out on his H.b to an average of 10.5. His Platelets seem to have made a full recovery and are on average 150, but his neutrophils have fluctuated from 1-3.5 in the last 5 weeks. We would like to hear any advise from you as to what you think is wrong. He was significantly ill during the month prior to going into hospital, with what was thought to be a "normal" childhood virus, his symptoms being very similar to a cold with very loose stools for lasting approx before recovery. He could possibly have been exposed to shingles prior to falling ill. Any help or advise would be much appreciated.
