Here's what I understand about your situation. CMV is 'sort of' an opportunistic infection. If your husband is on immunosuppression therapy to prevent transplant rejection, his risk for CMV infection is high. It can be spread from direct contact with body fluids, including semen, vaginal fluids, saliva, nasal secretions (including respiratory droplets from uncovered sneezes and coughs), urine, breast milk and blood. The virus can attack various organs and organ systems, including the liver, GI tract, and the eyes. Please consult your healthcare providers for a satisfactory answer, and keep asking until you get all the info you need!
