Interestingly, I have spoken to many suffering from gout. After you have it a while you realize that it is different for everyone. Me, I tried cherry juice. I bought a whole closet full. Didn't work. I tried all kinds of natural cures that did not work for me. I am not saying they won't work for you though I am telling you waht worked for me. Allopurinol (prescription) works. I take one pill a day and now more gout. Asparagus is amazingly a bad thing. Gravies etc. chicken soup, HONEY! is another. Shell fish, beer, and too much steak. Drink a lot of WATER. That is a big factor. If you are not drinking water the uric acid levels get too high and here comes the PAIN! First time I had gout (toe next to big toe) I was ready to cut it off. Now I usually get it in the foot or knee which is better than the toe believe me. It seems that flying also is a sure bet for kicking off an attack for me. Good luck and take the allopurinol 100 mg a day and no more or very rare gout. I thought I didn't need it anymore last Christmas. I quit and with in 2 weeks I was DOWN for the count. It made a beleiver out of me.
