I don't see a problem with the oranges because they do have a lot of vitamin C, but vitamin C is not stored in the body. Any not utilized is excreted. However, there are several medications on the market to treat rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. There was a study which just came out that suggested that one of the over the counter non steroidal anti-inflammatories lasting 12 hours not only provided as much pain relief as the much more expensive new ones, but also had the effect that fewer individuals who took it had heart attacks because it has the same effect on platelets as does aspirin. Additionally, a study was just published out of Europe which showed that glucosamine definitely helped with osteoarthritic pain but also slowed or stopped the progression of the disease. Rheumatoid arthritis can cause swelling. You were kind of vague about the type of swelling, but swelling can indicate heart, kidney, or cieculation problems. Perhaps it would be wise for a revisit tot he doctor. Ask about some of the things I've mentioned. Good luck.
