Valerie, I am a 22 year old female and i was born with only half fingers on my right hand (except for my thumb). I just wanted to say, A)i never really cared to know if it was ever called anything until just recently, and i'm glad i ran into your email. B)I would love for you to tell your niece when she is old enough to know, it will never matter. No one has ever really cared unless i seemed to be bothered by it. I went through middle school hinding my hand, when really when i would devulge this "secret" to my friends, they only were upset that i assumed they would be disgusted or they would no longer accept me etc. Even as a child, i was never mocked, and no one i ever was friends with or even not friends with ever cared. It did take me a while to trust in people that they would not care, but i have had a wonderful life and am a fabulous person, AND i am an actress:) I have been on stage since 4th grade and just graduated college last week actually with a degree in theater performance and i have a paying job in acting beginning in july! so you can see,in life nothing is unatainable, there are no impossibilities only setbacks. I just wanted you to that, so you will know, she will be fine:)
