Rebecca, Hello, I have a daughter who is now 6 years old. She started having seizures at the age of 6 months. They started out as Grand Mal Seizures and she was on Phenobarbital for about 18 months. I HATED that drug, It made her seem like a zombie. She had a severe seizure on the medication and I made the doctor change it. We weaned her off the drug (which took about 3 months). By this time she was 2 years old and we decided to see how she did off medication all together. She went 2 years with no seizure nor medication, but when she was 4 years old she developed a different type of seizure(what we believe to be myoclonic)she was having at least 50 instances per day. Her neuoroligist consulted with other doctors decided that we would try Depakote Sprinkles. She takes 125mg 3 times a day and the medication is GREAT!! She has no seizures and it does not effect her mentally like Pheonobarbitol did. She make Excellent grades in 1st grade and the only problem we experience is tiredness. No one even knows she has this disorder unless I tell them. I would love to talk with you, email me sometimes.
