I have the same condition. Mine is due to only 40% function of the right inner ear nerve. Yes, it is a permanent condition for me, and I can empathize with your symptoms. My doctor brought mine under control when I had my first serious bout in 1986 by giving my Valium in very small doses..2 mg. 3x per day. I also take Antivert..25 mg. 3X per day. These seem to keep it under control. If I have a flare-up I increase my Valium until it subsides. Good luck, I hope this helped.
