My partner is an alcoholic who went through detox in a inpatient facility. After being off all alcohol and meds for 14 days, he had three grand mall seizures within 12 hours. He had a normal CT and EEG. He is on dilantin now and has not had a seizure for two months. We have asked several MD'S if the seizures were from alcohol withdrawl? They all tell us that two weeks post detox for a first time seizure isn't likely from alcohol. They can't tell us if he has epilepsy or not. Due to his occupation, if he has epilepsy, he will be out of a career. If the seizures are from withdrawl he may be okay. Is there any clear cut answers? Do people stay on meds not really knowing wether they need them or not? This is all so new to us and no one seems to be able to tell us anything except "maybe's" and "looks like's". If there is no way to really know the causes of seizures, we would really like to know. If anyone has answers or resources I would really appreciate it. Lisa
