Dear Lorene, My name is Robin and I am a 30 year old female. I had a baby when I was 28 years old. Six weeks after the delivery, I developed three small clots in my thigh and calf. The doctors treated my with heperin for ten days in the hospital. The doctors sent me home. I had began taking coumidin in the hospital and like you I was told that I would probably take coumidin for life... After my release from the hospital, I began to regress and the pain in my leg became so severe that I couldn't walk..I went back to the hospital and after a dye test. It was revealed that my whole vena cava vein was clotted and wasn't functioning at all. I went throught several extensive treatments including placement of stents throughout my left leg. It was all unsuccessful. I am now thiry, taking coumidin every other day and wearing high compression support hose... Like you, I have considered having another child. My doctors have told me that it is very possible for me to have another child. My doctors have all told me that I would have to take heperin injections everday. The coumidin can cause severe birth defects. My biggest concern about the heperin is the pain from the shots. I hear that the shots are very painful. Have you talked to anyone that has taken the shots during pregnancy?????????But back to the subject of coumidin. My doctors all advise me that coumdin is very dangerous during pregnancy........Hope this will help........Robin
