My son had osteomyletisis when he was in 4th grade. The doctor said it could have been due to him digging out a splinter on the other foot which became infected or it just could have happened. He had his in his right knee and was in the hospital for 2 week on IV antibiotics and then oral antibiotics at home for another 2 weeks. He is now 17 and has never had a problem since and did not have any trouble walking or moving his knee as soon as the infection cleared up.
