HI! I am 34 years old and have had 2 DVTs, which is deep vein thrombosis. I had my first at the age of 22(which was left undetected due to a doctors inability to perform a veiniogram properly) and another at 32. I was on the birth control pill. I have since been diagnosed with a blood clotting disorder called factorVleiden. It took the doctors 10 years to find this. I was having alot of leg pain in the calf and extending to my upper leg. I was told by my family doctor I had varicose veins and nothing could be done, until I took a second DVT. I was in hospital for 11 days and til this day my legs pain me everyday. I have post phlybitic syndrome due to vein damage. I have always tried to keep my self healthy. My specialist told me that the birth control pill was the MAJOR factor in my clotting. Around 4% of the population has FactorVleiden. Some day I hope women will be tested before they are given the birth control. I truly beleive I may have never had blood clotting problems until I reach old age and was inactive if I hadnt started taking the pill. Never leave leg pain in the calf especially if you are on the pill. I am so sorry I never pushed my doctor harder to do something earlier. I am now having pain in my neck and upper arms. MY signs were there: calf pain, head aches, ringing in my ears, shortness of breath(doctor said it was panic attacks HA!) pressure in my head especially when I laid down, numbness on one side of my face and if I had a drink of alcohol that side of my face would turn red and burn, tired, and unable to fight viruses.I hope that you will get medical advice or search into it yourself. Blood clots kill. The best of luck to you.
