I suffer from a chronic liver disease and have to have liver biopsies sometimes. I have always had to stay in hospital overnight but I think that varies in different areas. (I live in UK) Liver biopsies can be very painful and certainly unpleasant, occasionally nasty side-effects occur so that is why you are kept under observation for a while. I would certainly suggest you have someone take you home after the procedure and you may need to take it easy for a few days depending on how you feel.
