Hi! I've had a similar problem to yours and problems with doctors that I'm sure you will be able to relate to. I originally saw a GYN for incontinence and pelvic prolapse problems. Had a vag. hyst. with repair. While a patient in the hospital I suffered significant retention and negligence by my physician and nursing staff. This caused failure of my surgery. I was put off, but made a claim against the hospital. In awaiting to have my second repair surgery, I was having urinary retention, with difficulties voiding and increasing back pain. I asked my GYN for urodynamics, which I now feel I should have had in the beginning as a baseline. He refused me this. After my second repair surgery, I suffered flank pain. Hydronephrosis was found on IVP. Then shortly after that I had an elevation of kidney function tests. It was only at that time that I was referred to a urologist. A Foley was put back in and I continued self cathing for 2 months afterwards. I was told that I had an atonic bladder and to self cath as needed. I was denied a follow-up IVP. Now wait a minute......I never had these problems before my surgeries. Something is wrong here. I sensed that my GYN and Urologist were now working for themselves, and not for me. I have basically fired them and have gotten a second opinion. I now have a urologist who is working for me to help me with my problems. Thank God! I truly feel that if I had been evaluated properly in the beginning and that the retention post-op had been taken care of, I would not have gone through what I have. I'm angry and hurt that these docs did not see me as an important enough person to get the care that I needed as a patient. I am now left residual problems for the rest of my life because of this bungled mess.
