My 11 1/2 year old daughter also has osteomyelitis but the germ in unknown. She has been receiving antibiotics through a picc line (intravenously) for five weeks. She has one week to go, hopefully. Although she has been on crutches for about 7 weeks, and has been going to physical therapy for one week to help stregthen up her leg, she has not had any pain. I read that antibiotics given intravenously are more effective that oral meds. because they penetrate the bone better. You may want to ask your doc. about this. Oh, I also read that sometimes in order to heal the leg needs to be ambulatory. Good luck. You'll be in our prayers.
