I am a 30 year old male who was diagnosed as having porastic fibrous displasia at the age of 14. the area of main concern was my left femur however, following a full body X-ray further patches were discovered in my right femur and right arm. An operation was undergone to remove the fb from my left femur and relace it with bone graphs from my pelvis. The operation was a success and after 2 years of follow up X-rays i discontinued check ups. The consultant stated that this disease manifested itself as my bones were growing at a rapid rate and that the problem would subside as i reached my late teans. I have received no further problems until about 4 years ago when i suffered a chronic back complaint that was diagnosed a damaged/bulged disc. Since then i have persuaded consulatants to make further investigations and it has transpired that the FB is still active and is occuring in my left pelvis. They now think that this is the area where my nerve passes over the pelvis and that the FB may be agravating the nerve. I suppose that I have been hoping that the Fb was a thing of the past but now i am not so sure. I would be interested to here more about your experiences with this disease and any beneficial informamtion that you may have unearthed!
