I would suggest that you go see a gynaecologist. I have been recently (July this year) detected to have polycystic ovarian syndrome or PCOS. Some five or so cysts have been spotted in my ovaries through abdominal ultrasound (I was earlier told that if the abdominal ultrasound would not show anything clear enough, Id have to go through the vaginal ultrasound which I did not have to because the cysts were visible through the abdominal ultrasound. I've been having very irregular periods since I was 14 and adult acne until this year (I'm 36). Since I was 18, I've been under the care of gynaecologists who have been trying to regulate my cycles through the use of pills such as Diane 35. It's only this year that I got to hear about PCOS as the "thing" that I have. Based on the several articles on PCOS that I have been reading (as I tried to educate myself on the subject), PCOS is a group of symptoms which include irregular cycle (which I have), adult acne (which I have), hirsutism (which I do not have), some uterine bledding (ehich I do not have) and others. PCOS is also said to have no known origin although some doctors (including my current gynaecologist here in Melbourne, Australia) claim that the cause is hereditary, something a person is born with. It is al;so said that until this time, PCOS has no cure. I have also read some articles that one cause of infertility is PCOS, although there are women who have been detected to have PCOS but have have children. Hence, it is case-to-case basis. No two women having PCOS are the same. In a recent artcile that I've read, there are women detected to have cysts in their ovaries but do have regular menstrual cycles. At the moment, what my gynaecologist is treating are my irregular cycle and my adult acne. I am taking androcur and Progynova which I started last July and should go on for five months. With this, I do hope to have regular menstruation (meaning regular and more predictable ovulation). I did ask my gynaecologist about the effects or implications of my taking in the Androcur and Progynova pills on my prospects for having children in the future. He said it should not have any negative effect. He said that what he is dealing with at present is my PCOS. If in the future I may have problems conceiving in the future, then he can deal with it by then. I hope that these bits of information could help.
