Brain injury from car wreck

My partner had a severe brain injury a year ago. He was in a coma for 4 weeks. All up he was in hospital and rehabilition for 5.5 months. As he was emerging from the coma i could see a difference. Periods of wakefulness and sleep. Then he would feel any hands that touched him and if it wasnt mine he would push it away. Gradually the periods of wakefulness became lighter. Until he was awake. Although he looked stunned and was unable to communicate it was obvious that he was "awake". Although he remained in a state of Post Traumatic Amneasia(PTA) for over a year. This is an extension of the coma when they are awake and functioning to a certain degree. They are completly confused in time place and person. They are even unaware of day or night. In america you should have a brain injury association or similar. Support and information can be obtained through them. Alternatively you may try a support group called Parent to Parent they have a large support and information network. If you wish you can email me for info or support. I do understand and can sympathise with you. kimtree@eosnet.aunz.net Kim
