I have had vitiligo for nearly 20 years, I was told to NEVER, EVER expose it to sun, or there is an enormously high risk of skin cancer developing in those unpigmented areas. The one time I did not listen and the one patch under my neck blistered, bled, and scabbed over. Very painful. The dermatologist told me that skin pigment is the only thing protecting your skin from severe burn, without out it you should never be exposed to those rays.
