Glenn
I write this sad story while i wait for ,only what one would descibe will be the worst day of my life,to lay my son of 4 and a half years to rest on the 6-6-00 . My son Jake was born at 28weeks prem with a major bleed to the brain and needing a shunt for hydrocephalis, he had only one revision at one years of age and all was fine. Jake had his problems with cerabal palsy mainly in the legs ,he could not walk as yet but could take a few steps and needing phisio once a week . He also suffered with seziures with which we had yet to get under control but in general he was a very bright beautifull little boy that we loved dearly. We had taken jake for his one of his appointments with the neuro last Tues and all was well, then on the Wednesday jake came down with what we thought was just a case of Gastro which was going around at the time, he could not eat for 2 days,he was lethagic and very quiet. On the Friday we new all was not right and we rushed him through to the hospital by Ambulance which was an hour and a half away. Jake was rushed in for a CT scan and there was definate signs of a blocked shunt and even if they revised it there was a chance that the damage was irerversible ...and he had serious damage with asperation to the lungs with the vomit. The pressure on Jakes brain ended up being too great and he was left with too greater damage that was fair on us or our precious little son so we had to make a decision and i dont need to explain that! I write this to hope that people may read it and that to take that little bit more care and get there child to the doctors before they go through what we are going through and for there child! If anything else that i would like to come from this is that there is a better shunt that can be made, i beleive that in this day and age this should never have happened......Thanks Glenn This is our home Page if any one wants to see our special little boy http://www.southwest.com.au/~glennnat/
