This is such a sad diagnosis at your mother's age--she's so young. I recently found out that my brother has dementia and he is 60 years old. I'm sure this is very difficult for you since you are so young yourself. I hope you have family support to help you deal with this and understand what is going on. Is your mother on any medication, I wonder. My brother's anxiety level was so high and he had so much anger which made things so difficult for him. Once he was hospitalized and put on the proper medication, he has really stabilized and he is feeling much better. His short term memory is what suffers the most. We just need to keep repeating things to him and gently remind him that he can never drive again and that he is unable to work. He is in a nursing home now, but we hope to get him out once he stabilizes and adjusts to the fact that he cannot work again. I don't know of any medication that can help with dementia, but I do know that gingo biloba is a popular herb which helps circulate blood to the brain. I guess a lot depends on the cause of the dementia. Have the doctors told you the cause? My brother's dementia is caused from alcoholism and strokes, and his brain is shrinking due to the drinking. Possibly your mother's problem could be from circulation or other causes. It's hard, I'm sure, for you to see her worsen on a daily basis.
